Doom: The Dark Ages looks enticing

What happens when you combine dark fantasy elements with classic 1st Person, action-heavy sequences? You don’t get a “Heretic” but you do get a Doom Slayer. An ancestor that is just the no mercy, no-nonsense character that Doomguy harbors.

The eighth main entry in the “Doom” franchise, “Doom: The Dark Ages” serves as a prequel to the modern games: “Doom” (2016) and “Doom Eternal” (2020). The game takes place in medieval times where a war against hell has occurred.

The trailer appears to showcase Modern “Doom” elements: combat, exploration, and story. The difference is that instead of space demons, there are dragons and HP Love Craftian-inspired monsters – big enough to break your console. The 1st Person Shooter once again has that classic metal soundtrack to get you pumped up within.

Interestingly, the emphasis on parries and dodges is eye-opening. “Doom’s” gameplay has always been about strategic bum-rushing, so this whole new focus on mechanics is a change of direction. The unfortunate part is that multiplayer will not happen which is sad for fans of the previous games. However, we’ll still have that classic “Doom” gameplay to keep those engaged.

“Doom: The Dark Ages” releases on May 13th. Make sure you dive in through the cosmic realm as the Doomslayer. i-dSoftware appears to have this installment be worthy of the “Doom” canon, and it’s looking to be a rewarding experience for 1st Person shooter enthusiasts.
