Giant Squid Studios has dropped a new trailer for their upcoming video game “Sword of the Sea,” which was confirmed to be releasing in 2025 earlier this year for PS5, PC and Epic Games Store. This new trailer gives an all new look into their upcoming game as well as a new release date for Aug. 19, 2025.
The trailer reveals more of what the gameplay will be like, with the player, known as the Wraith, shown to be surfing along many surfaces such as snow, sand, water and even along walls. According to the trailer’s description, “Carve your way forward on the ancient and powerful Hoversword, which moves like a snowboard, skateboard and surfboard all in one.” It seems fluidity and movement throughout the map will be a large and crucial part of the gameplay, which is very much like past games such as “Journey” and “The Pathless.” There is even a portion showing the player jumping from the tops of one jellyfish to another like a platformer of sorts.
The trailer also gives a hint into who the antagonist of the game is, stating that “feel the spiritual magic of surfing as you connect with nature and restore life – but beware, there is also darkness lurking under the waves.” Towards the end of the trailer, the Wraith comes across what appears to be a slumbering serpent, with its two glowing red eyes shown in the darkness. If going by past Giant Squid Studios games, a good assumption of the Snake’s identity may be a remaining god of sorts, lingering after the destruction of the Necropolis, who feels anger and resentment for the city’s destruction by the civilization that has long since passed. The possibility of that assumption being correct or not will be revealed when the full game releases this summer.
