Texas Flood Kills Many People

Today, the country grieves over the many deaths found in the major floods that have broken out in central Texas. According to the BBC, at least 80 people have been killed so far, and rescue efforts are still underway to bring at-risk survivors out of harm’s way.

Reports say that most incidents occurred in Kerr County, including a girls’ Christian camp known as Camp Mystic. At least two dozen campers have been found dead, and many more are still unaccounted for. Most attention has been paid to this county and the surrounding areas that were impacted by the flash floods. Hundreds of people have been saved by rescue teams through rafts and airlifts.

The cause of these floods has been attributed to the Guadalupe River, which swelled up from the constant rain and moisture. This eventually caused the flash flood to sweep through the county this Friday, picking up tons of debris and chaos as it spread across the streets. Many power lines and other infrastructures have been damaged due to the floods, which have slowed the efforts of rescuers. Multiple counties and cities remain on high alert, advising their residents to exercise extreme caution.

President Trump has spoken about the floods and assured Texas that it will have all the support it needs. Many critics have questioned whether the warning systems are in place and whether they are effective enough. No concrete answers have been made yet, as this line of questioning is still too early to explore. Hopefully, the rescue efforts will press on with few issues and continue to save lives.
