Local Theaters Are a Must and Should Be Preserved

Theaters within the United States have been undergoing a difficult transition in recent years. Following the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, there has been one of the many industries that has struggled to make a comeback.

However, it isn’t just because most productions are physical; the decline within the country is also a symptom of a long battle against the arts. Long-time institutions like Broadway, despite suffering effects from the dwindling industry, remain strong.

That can’t be said for any other theatres across the country. Sadly, despite the importance theatre has had in culture for longer than the United States has even existed, its popularity has dwindled behind television and film.

People have forgotten the importance of theatre productions and that it has a place everywhere, not just in wealthy cities on the coasts. Local theatres have been an excellent way for people who aren’t close to cities to see and participate in the arts. While theatre productions are the most common, people tend to forget that theatres are used by many types of art, from ballet shows, orchestras and other musical events.

Local theatres are also a great way for schools to teach future generations about their craft. For those who let these institutions rot away, they would lose a viable way for rural communities to have entertainment and any future performers who are interested in learning.
