Marketing Domination: How Amazon Approaches Advertising

Amazon isn’t just the king. It’s the de facto—the largest online retailer in the universe. Maybe that statement is a bit too far but the global sentiment remains. The company has multiple avenues to not be brushed off. Twitch, Audible, Whole Foods Market, Comixology, Ring, and IMBd are all notable names under the Amazon umbrella. All make profit and revenue for the storied company. 

Yet, Amazon has one field that they are approaching. A market that they are very well aware of but have not truly conquered. Regardless of that, Amazon is seeing this field’s potential and it might be ready to be tapped.

Enter Amazon Ads, the company’s official foray into advertising. Not to be a brown noser but Amazon is known for understanding the market and following through with execution. Amazon doesn’t have to build new content from the ground up, it’s reaping profits from what’s already on the platform. 

The core model appears to monetize consumer interest by using shopping, search. And behavioral data. This can allow third party brands to take advantage of marketing to potential customers effectively. So, for example, if Jimmy has a history of buying durags on the platform, then most likely brands related to his intent will start to pop up in his recommendation lists.

Listen, Amazon is the third biggest digital advertising behind Alphabet’s Google and Meta Platforms. Which means it needs a bit more time in the oven to become number one in that department. Still, Amazon Ads generated 13.9 billion in the first quarter of 2025—an 18% increase from the previous year. The brand is clearly scaling faster in this regard and it’ll probably be even higher in 2026.

The Amazon ecosystem is expanding to new avenues. For all the entrepreneurs and stock investors, pay close attention to the developments that will transpire in the coming years. Amazon Ads is on a trajectory to be a massive force in digital advertising. Don’t get left behind.
