FX The Bear Writer Gets Pulled Off of NYC Train

An incident on a New York City subway led to police escorting Alex O’Keefe, a onetime writer for the popular FX show The Bear, off its premises.

O’Keefe, a black American, described on Instagram that while aboard a Metro-North train headed to Connecticut, a white woman complained about the way he was sitting. After he refused to remove his legs from an adjacent seat, police were called. He was then taken off the train in handcuffs.

After being escorted off, the officers gave O’Keefe a summons accusing him of disorderly conduct, before allowing him to board a different train to reach his original destination.

The incident was quick to spread on social media through popular websites like TikTok and Twitter/X. People were quick to voice either their outrage or approval on the incident, with many considering it an example of the tense culture war within current American politics and society.

According to the Associated Press, the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) said that O’Keefe violated the rail line by sitting with both legs stretched across an adjacent seat. In a news conference on Monday, the MTA Chairman Janno Lieber said that the incident was “a simple case of a passenger breaking the rules by putting his legs on a seat.”

“…Just take your feet off the seat. It’s that simple,” Lieber added. “And respect other passengers. But we’ll take a look at the video and deal with all the dramas that seem to come out of these simple interactions these days.”
