It’s official!! My newest guide, Want to Be Cool?? Be a Leader!!, has officially been published!
This project has been a true labor of love, combining my passion for leadership, character development, and helping young people reach their full potential. The book is designed specifically for middle school and high school students and athletes, offering practical lessons that inspire confidence, integrity, and teamwork both on and off the field.
Each of the 40 lessons inside is paired with a real-life story and a reflection question, giving readers an opportunity to think deeply about their choices, their mindset, and the kind of leader they want to become. Whether it’s in the classroom, on a team, or in everyday life, the guide challenges students to make the small, consistent decisions that separate true leaders from the crowd.
I also want to give a special shoutout to my former professor, Dr. Rob Gilbert, whose mentorship and wisdom were instrumental throughout this journey. Below is an excerpt from the guide – a glimpse into the type of stories and lessons readers will find inside!
Winners act like winners – even when they’re losing.
How do you respond when things aren’t going your way? Do you start to sulk, drop your head, or let your emotions take over? That’s where the true test begins. Winners don’t let their circumstances dictate their attitude. Winners don’t let their circumstances dictate their body language either. Whether they’re ahead or behind, performing well or struggling, they carry themselves with composure, confidence, and class. Their body language, mindset, and effort stay consistent, because they understand that acting like a winner shouldn’t be controlled by the scoreboard. Take a look at athletes like Derek Jeter or Aaron Judge. You could watch them for nine innings and have no idea if they were 4-for-4 or 0-for-4. Their behavior never changed. They stayed locked in, led by example, and carried themselves like pros, regardless of the outcome. When a college football team is getting blown out, you can often see frustration on the players’ faces along the sidelines – but the cheerleaders never let their energy drop. Their enthusiasm stays sky-high no matter the score. That level of consistency is leadership. Winners understand: how you carry yourself when you’re losing says more about you than how you act when you’re winning.
