John Oliver Auctions Off Props from His Show to Help Fund Public Media

After the Public Media Bridge Fund had its funding from the government cut down, which would cause severe financial issues for many small local stations, John Oliver decided he would hold an auction to help support the lost funds.

John Oliver is a British and American Comedian and the host of a late-night TV show. He is well known for his comedic coverage of news across the globe. He has won three Primetime Emmy Awards for his part in “The Daily Show’, twenty Emmy Awards and two Peabody awards for his show, ‘Last Week Tonight with John Oliver’.

His show, ‘Last Week Tonight with John Oliver’, is well known for its high production value and its willingness to use their funds to purchase eccentric items or props. These ridiculous props and one-of-a-kind items are now what John Oliver is set to auction off to help raise funds for the Public Media Bridge Fund.

Currently, there are 65 total items up for bid in the ‘John Oiver’s Junk’ auction. A few examples of what can be purchased include: an original 1987 painting by Bob Ross, Mrs. Cabbage Oliver, a cabbage that Oliver married during his 9th season, and Russell Crowe’s Jockstrap.

While these are the standout items from the list, a classic of celebrity auctions that is still available is a promise that the show will fly you out to meet John Oliver in person.

For those interested in putting in a bid, the bidding window is set to close on November 24th, so act fast if you want to get your hands on something from this auction and show your support for the Public Media Bridge Fund.
