The Beauty of a Live Performance

Don’t get me wrong.  I love going to the theater to watch new movies.  With a tub of salty popcorn, holding a refreshing cup of soda, as I stare up at the big screen as the film begins, I will drop almost everything and anything to go to my local movie theater.  Horror, romance, drama, you name it!  If there is an opportunity, I will flock to the theater to watch a film.

However, while I do enjoy going to the theater to watch a new film, there are few things on earth that compare to experiencing a live performance.

While watching actors across a big flat screen is nice and fun in its own right, there is something of worth and beauty when you can watch and see an actor conveying and delivering a story right before your eyes on the stage.  With the small aid of music and the performances of your fellow actors, you can really see the talent, heart, and care that go into crafting and delivering performances for live theater.

Something happens to you when you take the time to sit and watch an actor bring life to a character on the stage.  When you sit in the audience and watch them as they perform, you can see every emotion and every feeling conveyed across their face, without the interference of a screen between you.  In seeing an actor on stage right before you, it’s almost as if you can feel every feeling and emotion as the actor, if not more intensely than the performer.

When they are sad, you’re devastated. And when they are happy, you’re exuberant!

When watching a live performance, such as live theater, something is shared between the actors and the audience.  Between the two, the beauty of art in all forms lies between the audience and the actors.  The art of love, the art of feeling, and yes, even the art of heartbreak.

If you can, please go and support live theater.  Do not believe in the propaganda that you need to go to see a Broadway show to have a good time with live theater.  Even if you want to support your local theater and see a performance, I can promise that it will be worth it in experiencing a show performed right before your eyes.
