Artist of the Month for April 2026
America’s own “emo cowgirl” Megan Moroney was born on October 9, 1997 in Savannah, Georgia. She grew up in Savannah, where she was surrounded by music, especially the country genre. Both her father and her brother played the guitar, which led her to constantly being involved in musical activities during school like talent shows and chorus. She also enjoyed cheerleading as a child and teenager, and when she suffered knee injury, her father bought her a guitar to practice on. For college, she attended the University of Georgia with her first major being accounting, which had been her mother’s career. Megan ended up changing her major to digital marketing and music business and was also involved in the university’s sorority, Kappa Delta. Throughout her college career, she performed musical events on campus and posted covers of her singing on social media. Kappa Delta had an event where Jon Langston played, and Megan opened for the artist, which led her to be discovered by Chase Rice, a country singer, and ended up opening for the artist’s concert.
Soon after her graduation from the University of Georgia, Megan moved to Nashville, Tennessee in May 2020. She started her musical career working an internship with Kristian Bush, artist and producer, but because the Covid-19 pandemic was at its peak, her start in the industry moved slowly. During this time, she began to focus on her songwriting and has stated she takes inspiration from female artists such as Taylor Swift and Kacey Musgraves. At the beginning of 2021, she released her first official single, Wonder, and released her debut EP in July 2022, Pistol Made of Roses. Everything would change for the aspiring country music star in September 2022, when her single Tennessee Orange took over the world.
Not only did Tennessee Orange chart on the Billboard Top 100 and Billboard Hot Country Songs, several record labels were chasing the star. She ended up signing with Sony Nashville and Columbia Records. Her single went on to chart at the number one spot Billboard’s Country Airplay chart in 2023. Also in 2023, Megan released her debut album Lucky, following her first headlining tour for her debut EP, and the album charted at #40 on the Billboard Top 200 chart. Her traction did not stop after her quick rise to fame, with her release of two more albums since 2023, Am I Okay? in July 2024 and Cloud 9 in February 2026. Megan has completed four headlining tours, two in 2023, one in 2024, and one in 2025, with her next set to kick off in May 2026. It has been a busy year for our favorite cowgirl!
We have seen her dominate the charts, the industry, and the stage–and we have also seen her dominate the award shows. Her shelf of awards includes three major categories, Best Country for Am I Okay? at the 2025 VMAs, New Artist of the Year at the 2024 CMA Awards, and New Female Artist of the Year at the 2024 ACM Awards. Megan has simultaneously healed our broken hearts, made us want to fall in love again, let us cry while she plays the guitar–all while taking over the industry. From a sorority girl in Georgia with a guitar and a dream, to one of the world’s leading female country music stars, Megan Moroney has already had a career of a lifetime by the age of 28.
