New York Mets Losing Streak Continues

As we spring into the early portion of the MLB season, it’s important to see which teams stand out as the top dogs of their respective divisions and which teams are falling flat on their faces at home plate. Standing atop the league with the best record throughout the first 16 games of the season—to no one’s surprise—are the LA Dodgers. The Ohtani-led defending champions have sprung to a 12-4 record through their first couple of games. They were the last remaining unbeaten team of the league before dropping their first game to the Cleveland Guardians in their fourth game of the season.

The Guardians lead the American League, sharing a tie at 10-7 with the Minnesota Twins. The league remains fairly close, however, as the top seed of the conference holds only a 2-game lead or less over the majority of the other teams in the conference.

And it looks like the Houston Astros, Colorado Rockies, San Francisco Giants, Boston Red Sox, and Chicago White Sox are lost at sea as each team holds either a 6-10 or 6-11 record within the opening stage of the season. The 2025 World Series runner-up Toronto Blue Jays are also looking for a bridge over troubled waters as they commence their season with a 6-9 record. Fortunately, the 162-game schedule offers a lifeline for each of these teams, giving them an opportunity to turn things around and burst their way up the ranks.

But the most important story is the New York Mets who are experiencing a sudden fall from grace as they have dropped 6 consecutive games. In their recent game against the LA Dodgers, the Mets were completely shutout in a 4-0 loss that will certainly have alarm bells ringing for the franchise. The Mets have been shut out in three of their last four contests, and have been outscored by their opponents 34-9 through the duration of their six-game losing streak. A right calf strain picked up during an April 3rd contest against the San Francisco Giants sidelined star player Juan Soto, an injury that has proven to be a brutal one for the Mets as they can’t seem to find an answer in the wake of his absence. As of today, Soto is likely to miss the next few weeks, an update that has Mets fans incredibly concerned.

The Mets will continue their stay in LA as they face the Dodgers two more times before the conclusion of their first season-series. With the lack of offensive production, the Mets chances of winning are looking slim to none, but with a long-season ahead of them, they have the opportunity to turn things around and gain some momentum to reclaim their spot on the top. It will be interesting to see how the season progresses and what teams break through to become contenders for the year-end trophy.
