Teens are Victims of Violent Attacks Across the City

On Monday, April 13th, a 15-year-old boy slashed another teen in the face, in a burst of violence, inside their Bronx high school. It happened around 12:50 p.m. inside Willian H. Taft High School, the authorities said. The suspect cut the victim on the forehead with a scalpel, but it is unclear what prompted the incident.

The victim, also 15, was taken to Harlem Hospital. He was listed in stable condition. Officers responded just before 1 pm. The school was sent into a brief lockdown while police searched for the suspect. Teachers say that he was wearing a monitoring bracelet from an alleged past crime.

The young attacker was taken into custody at the scene and charged with assault, criminal possession of a weapon, and harassment, the authorities said.

The Department of Education issued a statement saying that there is no place for weapons of any kind in our schools and that the school staff quickly addressed the incident.

In other news, in Queens on Thursday afternoon, a burst of youth violence inside city parks has been happening as summer-like weather rolls in.

This includes a 13-year-old boy being discovered badly bleeding from his right leg, near Rufus King Park, just after 4 pm. The boy is in stable condition in a children’s hospital. Photos capture police collecting evidence in a cordoned-off portion of the sidewalk and picking up a large knife. Other objects, such as a broken log and a metal rod, were marked as evidence.

This incident came just hours before a 15-year-old was gunned down near the Nautilus playground. As well as Wednesday night, another 15-year-old was killed, and two others were critically wounded in a shooting after a cookout involving alleged gangbangers, which descended into violence.

Lastly, a teenage girl and two boys lured a 15-year-old to a park and repeatedly stabbed him 11 times with a large kitchen knife. The girl, who was admitted for attempted murder, was sentenced to seven years and four months in youth detention. The boy was given life-saving first aid at the scene, spent seven hours in surgery, and is recovering.
