If you like Cats, Vampire, and the singer P!nk, then you probably enjoyed the Tony Awards that aired last night, on June 7th. The host P!nk did some over-the-top acrobatic moments that won’t leave you disappointed.
The big winners in the musical category and who all took home four Tony’s was Schmigadoon! Who won best new musical, Ragtime, which won best musical revival, The Lost Boys, and Cats: The Jellicle Ball. I have never seen these, but I’ve heard good things about the Lost Boys movie, and I am betting the musical was just as good.
For the play Death of a Salesman, which won six Tony’s which includes Best Revival of a play and Best performance by an actress in a featured role in a play for Laurie Metcalf. Caissie Levy wins best performance by an actress in a leading role in Ragtime, the musical.
The Lost Boys took the stage and brought fire, and it was up for 12 total Tonys. Leslie Odom Jr sang an amazing rendition of “Without You” from Rent for the In Memoriam segment. Racheal Dratch introduced the performance of “Sweet Transvestite” and “Time Warp” from Richard O’Brien’s The Rocky Horror Show.
Best Musical was won by Schmigadoon! The best play was won by Liberation. Daniel Radcliffe was nominated for best actor in a leading role for Every Brilliant Thing, who is best known for playing Harry Potter. Laurie Metcalf won Best Actress in a featured role, and I know her most from the show Roseanne.
I personally do not know any of these actors or actresses from these plays and musicals, and only recognized some of the names of the plays and musicals that were nominated. The ones that were not nominated that I do know are Fiddler on the Roof, The Producers, which I found very funny and entertaining, and Wicked, which I enjoy the music and the story of the two sisters, and see it from another perspective of the Wizard of Oz. I think these musicals should have been at least nominated.
