When it comes to books, one of my favorite genres to read is dystopian. They always have you think about if you were in that version of the world, what would you do in that situation. Hunger Games, for example, I think about what faction I would be born into, and if I had happened to be in District 12, would I be friends with Katniss? Would I even have a chance in the arena if I were chosen? Would I be part of the rebellion? It’s fun, but also scary to think about, and we all who enjoy the genre love to speculate.
Another series I really enjoyed was called The Gender Games. This series is a completely different world. The city it takes place in is divided by this river, which is poisonous. One side of the river is ruled by a woman, where the men are seen as lower, the women are the law, and men have little to no rights. On the other side, however, is the complete opposite. Men have the say, women have no rights, and they can’t even go out of their homes without a man with them.
Now this world would be difficult to live in, and you would never know which side of the river you would be born on. How would you react to the laws depending on your gender and which side of the river you live on? This series was such a different concept; it really had you think.
Out of all the dystopian fiction I have read, I don’t think I would enjoy living in any of them, and the worst of them was the world of the Matched series. This felt like it would be hard to live in the world because you did not get to choose who you were married to, it’s like arranged marriages, but worse. Then living with only 100 of everything, songs, books, pictures, etc. If you like, I was born into it, I could understand, but how I live now, I could never do it
In the end, I love my freedom, and living in the dystopian worlds from my favorite series would just be a nightmare!
