Where does Ice Cream come from? Cow’s Milk obviously. It’s always been the source for commercial dairy products. Goat Milk has also been a secondary option but the former continues to reign supreme.
However, let’s say this: what happens when you pull it from another source? One that is out of the ordinary or maybe, even a bit uncommon. Regardless of its uniqueness, this source is already making its way as the biggest ice cream craze in New York City right now. Ladies and gentlemen, I present to you, breast milk flavored ice cream.
Brooklyn’s ice cream shop, Oddfellows, has started the trend and it is spreading like wildfire across the city that never sleeps. In collaboration with the baby product company, Frida, the flavor is advertised to taste “just like mom used to make.”
The Breast Milk Ice Cream has the typical ingredients: heavy cream, milk, egg yolk and sugar. Despite its namesake, the flavor is not made out of breast milk. In reality, it’s liposomal bovine colostrum, a supplement found in breast milk.
As said before, similar to a baby craving breast milk, people are loving this nationwide. I guess it brings a sense of nostalgia, despite most people forming memories at around three years old. An age a bit after the breastfeeding stage.
As a testament to motherhood, people are mostly infatuated with flavor. Described as sweet and salty. Others have even said it tastes like cake batter. While another section feels it’s rather vanilla-ish or mango ridden.
Overall, the Breast Milk Flavored Ice Cream is becoming a phenomenon. A flavor that you should definitely try out if around Brooklyn or any of the boroughs. Word to mother on this hot, sweaty season.
