Bio

Amy Jade Winehouse was a globally renowned British singer-songwrite and musician. Born in Enfield, London, Winehouse was involved in the arts and music at a young age and was enrolled in the Susi Earnshaw Theatre School, where she developed skills in singing, acting, and tap dancing. Winehouse would later graduate high school and briefly attend the BRIT School in Selhurst, Croydon, before beginning to write her own song,s experimenting with her guitar. Her professional career would start after a friend sent her music demo to a music scout, which eventually led her to be signed on with Island Records in 2002.

Her debut studio album, Frank, was released the next year and was a commercial success, as was her following album, Back to Black. The titular track, Back to Black, was one of her best successes from the album, entering number seven on the Billboard 200 and selling 1.85 million copies that year.

The success of the album would lead to Winehouse receiving six Grammy Awards for Record of the Year, Song of the Year, Best Female Pop Vocal Performance, Best Pop Vocal Album, and Best New Artist in 2008, and being nominated for Album of the Year.

Outside of her music, Winehouse was known for her stellar live performances, particularly on her tour promoting Back to Black and her collaborative performances with legendary pop and Jazz artists, including Tony Bennett.

Additionally, Winehouse was dedicated to philanthropy, donating to a multitude of charities towards issues concerning women, children, climate change, and local art programs and theaters. Winehouse would continue to perform even as her health declined and remains beloved amongst industry legends for her skill and talent years after her death.
