So far, the New York Knicks offseason has been outstanding. They hired a modern, offensive driven coach in Mike Brown. Check.
The Knicks signed 2021 Sixth Man Of The Year, Jordan Clarkson. A one-year, veteran minimum contract for $3.6 million. Check.
What else can the loaded blue and orange do for the rest of the season?
Considering they already lost players such as Precious Achiuwa, Cameron Payne, and PJ Tucker to free agency. Fortunately, the Knicks also added veterans such as Malcom Brogdon, Garrison Matthews, and Euroleague legend Guerschon Yabusele to the lineup.
Now back to the aforementioned question: what else can the Knicks do?
It appears that in regard to the Knicks need for three-point shooting, there is one player that has been sought after: Landry Shamet.
The Knicks placed 27th last season in three point-attempts. That’s a tad bit low and even with an offensive weapon in Jordan Clarkson, a high volume shooter is still needed.
When he played for them last season, Landry Shamet ranked second behind Cameron Payne for attempts. The latter isn’t returning but Shamet attempted approximately 7.4 three-pointers per 36 minutes.
Impressive stat. To make the argument for his return stronger, Shamet shot 39.7 percent of his threes and has a career average of 38.5: a bona fide marksman.
He is also healthy and a decent defender. So, there is no worry of potential injuries or mismatches.
Regardless, the Knicks have to think about how they’ll retain Shamet. Damn if they do or damn if they don’t but one thing for sure is that he’s a valuable role player that any team in the NBA would love to have.
