Latin Artist of the Month for December 2024

Bio

Aventura is a Dominican American bacha group. Formed in Bronx, New York in the early nineties by members Romeo Santos, Henry Santos, Lenny Santos, and Max Santos, Aventura mashes bachata with hip-hop, R&B, and pop, for a more modern sound.

In 1995 the group, then going by Los Tinellers, was given their first major performance by Elvin Polanco for the 1995 Bronx Dominican Parade. Following the performance’s success, Polanco became their manager and helped them record their first studio album Trampa De Amor with Elca Productions. When the album failed to make any successful sales, the band gained a new manager, Julio César García, who renamed the band Aventura and redefined them to emulate popular American boy bands. By 1998, the band signed on with Premium Latin Music, Inc. and released their debut album Generation Next that next year.

Their second album We Broke the Rules officially ushered them into the mainstream. One of the album’s singles Obsesion peaked at number 32 on the Billboard Tropical Songs chart in the U.S. and number 1 on the Eurochart Hot 100. Overall, We Broke The Rules was a success, peaking at number 5 on the Billboard Tropical Albums chart.

Aventura went on to become one of the most influential Latin music groups in the world, being the first ever Bacha group to originate within the U.S.  With five albums to their name and numerous worldwide concerts, the band has collaborated with many latin artists including  Judy Santos, Anthony ‘El Mayimbe’ Santos, Nina Sky, Don Omar, and more.
