AVERY: Connecticut’s Boutique Rapper

Quiet, Reserved, and Competent: Those are the traits that define Connecticut. Add in the manufacturing, college basketball, and pizza, then you get the state’s true experience. Connecticut’s vibe has caused outsiders to deem it as “boring” and “dry,” but to someone who’s lived within the area – that’s far from the truth. The state has a growing POC population with many residents residing over Bridgeport, New Haven, Hartford, and more. These cities are surrounded by wealthy suburbs, which adds into the tension and struggle. Those experiences have molded into lowkey yet interesting Hip Hop culture – one where this artist has quietly thrived.

Introducing AVERY, aka AveryKTG – a rapper hailing from Bridgeport, Connecticut. If you looked at him at first glance, you would believe this guy is from either Harlem or North Jersey. However, if you look at his music and finsta – you would notice there is a lot more to the emcee than initially perceived.

AVERY usually wears streetwear that is rather subtle and pristine. A style that is reflected in his music, with songs such as “My Cup Runneth Over” and “Rollin”. The former displays AVERY’s perspective: “They living these gimmicks/I can’t acknowledge the facade/They try to shade me like the side of the building I stand tall”. It shows his ability to flex without being brash – he knows who he is and does not let anyone conform.

Another aspect of him is his poetic insight. He’s not afraid to be introspective or reflective regarding his experiences. “God Got Me” and “Dirtbag” are songs that would make Rick Ross proud, with how thoughtful his raps are over Heatmakas styled beats. The latter rhetorically questions if he’s the song’s title for being how he is. Basically a moment of reflection for the fresh, reserved emcee.

The Max B fanatic has not released an album or project yet so far. However, if he chooses to – then the emcee will be able to show his versatility and swagger to a wide audience. Connecticut is clearly setting the seed to become a region that is to be taken seriously, and AVERY is an example of that reality.
