Baseball Crashouts: Why Is NY Baseball Collapsing All A Sudden?

Imagine this: You’re at Yankee Stadium. The crowd is looking lukewarm as some sections are empty while others are filled to the brim. In the air, the sound of Kendrick Lamar’s “Squabble Up” is playing in the background. Don’t get me started on the rattling bass and 808s amidst the beat.

As this is happening, New York Baseball’s two prestige teams: New York Mets and New York Yankees, are battling but unfortunately feels like a slog. Both of these teams are struggling and barely holding on to get the dub. A slugfest indeed, this hypothetical scenario encapsulates NY Baseball’s performance this summer.

Yesterday, the New York Yankees lost to the Houston Astros in a 7-1 loss. Not only is this a three-game sweep for the Yankees but they are 2-7 during August. Overall, the team has a record of 14-20. The Bronx ain’t happy about this record at all.

The New York Mets are 1-8 in August. Dating to their July 28 loss to the San Diego Padres and has dropped 11 out of their last 12 games. Although the Mets are last in the National League wildcard, it’s still looking dire. As the Cincinnati Reds and the Philadelphia Phillies are ahead of Queens’ finest.

The good news… both New York teams will be at home this week. The Mets will be in Citi Field for six consecutive games and the Yankees at their stadium for three games.

Regardless, those games should be the true test for them to bounce back. If they don’t deliver, then New York Fans will not be happy and that is a road no team wants to face.
