On social media, it seems that every other week, there is something new that just seems to have people captivated and desperate to try to recapture and recreate for themselves. Whether it’s the latest hairstyle, makeup style, or clothes, people seem so quick to jump and follow the latest beauty trend for 2026. And, I hate to say this, but I’m beginning to become very tired of seeing certain trends everywhere.
First, I’m tired of seeing people purposely tan. As we approach the warmer months of the spring and summer season, many people seek to darken their skin artificially, either with a tanning cream or a tanning salon. I see nothing beautiful about purposely changing one’s skin color just because the seasons have changed. To darken your skin, you will need to repeatedly use chemicals on your skin to change its appearance, exposing it constantly to chemicals that, over time, damage your cells and increase the aging process. Let’s also not ignore the fact that constant exposure to UV Ray light can increase the likelihood of developing skin cancer later down the line. This is not a trend; this is just dangerous.
Second, I’m tired of seeing the same “clean girl” makeup aesthetic. If you’re unaware of what I’m talking about, the “clean girl” makeup look is a style of doing one’s makeup that gives off a simple appearance that tries to appear effortless and natural. Slick back buns, glossy highlights, and a nude lip are just a few things that make up the “clean girl” aesthetic that’s popular on social media platforms. However, with everyone trying to copy and emulate the “clean girl” makeup aesthetic, this destroys originality and authenticity. In simple words, with everyone doing a similar look, everyone just looks the same, which brings up the main complaint of my article.
With everyone trying to copy and emulate the look of others, it does not allow room for anyone else. Originality, creativity, and uniqueness are essentially what make people who they are. Why try to limit yourself when trying to conform to what is popular today?
