‘Black Ops’ 7 was released on November 14th this year, and it was received with a mixed response by fans. Some fans were overjoyed with the release of the next game in the series and enjoyed the game. However, there was a large portion of the community that was dissatisfied with the game, with one of their biggest complaints being the obvious use of AI for the assets used in the game.
‘Black Ops 7’ has received a mostly negative rating on Steam, and only 8% of Google users who left a review enjoyed the game. Despite the largely negative response from the community, the game still sold hundreds of thousands of copies and has thousands of daily players. However, for the developers at Activision, this release was underwhelming, falling short of their goals.
Many in the community have expressed that ‘Black Ops 7’ feels like a step down in quality from previous games in the series, and it was not created with the same time and effort as before. This is shown in their use of AI assets throughout the game.
In the game, players can collect ‘Calling Cards’ which display a unique piece of art to their opponent when they defeat them. However, many have noticed that the art in these ‘Calling Cards’ shares a similar style that was used by AI to resemble the art of Studio Ghibli.
When asked about the use of AI, a representative for Activision gave the following statement: “Like so many around the world, we use a variety of digital tools, including AI tools, to empower and support our teams to create the best gaming experiences possible for our players. Our creative process continues to be led by the talented individuals in our studios.”
Overall, players were unhappy to see shortcuts like AI being used to create core assets for the game. The team in charge of the game has not made any statements regarding whether they are going to remove the AI assets or not.
