Borderlands 4 is Pushing It with Collector’s Edition

The gaming industry is in a very controversial position now, with the growing concerns of the high-ranking publishing companies becoming greedier than ever before. Increasing prices and dubious ownership have made video games more of a hobby that only some people can afford. However, with the recent announcement about Borderlands 4 collector’s edition, we can see that the 2K companies are overconfident in their fans.

This collector’s edition, being released at the same time as the game, will be available for $150. Not only that, but the bundle will not include the actual game. You will have to pay around $220 to get both the game and the merchandise, which is an insane amount of money. I doubt even Nintendo could justify this pricing.

The Borderlands series has been immensely popular in the past, getting plenty of praise and respect for its wacky humor and addictive gameplay. Borderlands 2 remains an all-time favorite for many people. However, the fans’ goodwill has slowly lessened over the past few years, with the franchise creating quite a few blunders. Borderlands 3 was only decent and didn’t get much attention after a few weeks. The movie bombed in theaters and was ridiculed online. Even the sequel to the spin-off interactive game received mixed reviews from fans, plummeting interest even further.

Perhaps this collector’s edition might go better with GTA or some other game, but Borderlands simply doesn’t have the star power it once had to justify any faith. 2k’s current direction with the series has left many people disappointed, wondering what could have been if they had never acquired Gearbox Entertainment. In the end, I feel this will only persuade people not to buy the game and further destroy the respect and recognition that the series has. We must start speaking with our wallets if we want to see fewer of these greedy decisions.
