Athlete of the Month for February 2025

Bio

Caitlin Clark is a popular American basketball player. Born in Des Moines, Iowa, Clark gained and interest in sports at a young age. Her parents had her competing in boys recreational leagues due to none being available for girls her age at the time.

In sixth grade, Clark joined the Amateur Athletic Union basketball program All Iowa Attack and by age 13, Clark was already playing years above her female age group. Clark continued with All Iowa Attack until her graduation from Dowling Catholic High School, where she played four years of varsity basketball.

She had been a highly sought after recruit even when she began high school, and by her graduation she was  considered a 5-star recruit by ESPN. Clark went on to play basketball for The University of Iowa and became the first freshman to win the Dawn Staley Award in her first season. By the end of her stay at Iowa, Clark won a plethora of awards including  the AP Player of the Year, the Honda Sports Award, the John R. Wooden Award, Naismith College Player of the Year, the Wade Trophy and two more Dawn Staley Awards.

After graduating Clark was drafted to Indiana Fever in the 2024 WNBA draft. Her first season was successful, with Clark winning the WNBA Rookie of the Year, and being named  Athlete of the Year by Time magazine and Female Athlete of the Year by the Associated Press.
