Caitlin Clark, one of the most talked-about athletes of 2024, is once again turning heads—but not for her incredible moves on the court. This week, the young phenom announced that she will decline an invitation to participate in the prestigious NBA All-Stars weekend.
On Wednesday, Clark’s management team confirmed that the Indiana Fever guard would forgo the opportunity to rub elbows with NBA stars like Steph Curry. She wants her first All-Star experience to be affiliated with the WNBA, which will host its own All-Stars Weekend in Indianapolis later this year.
Many fans are disappointed Clark won’t make an appearance, especially in the highly anticipated NBA vs. WNBA 3-point shoot-off. Last year’s match saw Curry face off against New York Liberty star Sabrina Ionescu. Though Ionescu lost the competition, she is planning on returning to the All-Stars festivities and has been in talks with Curry to expand the NBA vs. WNBA competition to potentially include more athletes from both leagues.
Clark’s name had brought more buzz to the 3-point challenge, as some speculated that the Curry and Ionescu rematch would also feature Clark and Klay Thompson. However, with the WNBA star set on making her first All-Star appearance later this year, she challenged the men to attend the WNBA weekend. Now, the ball is in their court. An appearance by Curry and Thompson would bring record numbers to the WNBA event, something Clark’s presence is already doing for the league.
The NBA All-Star weekend will be held from February 14 to 16, and the WNBA All-Star weekend will be from July 18 to 19.
