Weekend one of Coachella is a dumpster fire for festival goers who are driving up and camping. All over social media, people are filming themselves in their cars after between 8 and 10-hour waits just to get to the security checkpoint, not even through it. Those waiting are saying they’re afraid to consume anything because there are no bathrooms along the road and no private place to relieve oneself. There are staff bathrooms along the way but people are being turned away by staffers, and have begun taking to the bushes to do their business at first, but stopped once the police were called.
In the hot California sun, people’s phones and cars are overheating and running out of gas, leaving them with no air conditioning and a deterrent from staying well-fed and hydrated, as there is no place to use the bathroom. In these conditions, it’s only a matter of time before people’s health starts deteriorating and the authorities need to be called.
Some commenters are calling out creators for complaining about long wait times, claiming that Coachella has always been a busy festival and people go every year to complain, but neither the long wait times nor the complaints from Coachellas of years past are stopping people from packing their supplies and posting their travel vlogs. Some posters are also giving directions for the best streets to take to avoid the traffic and enter the camping grounds safely.
