Chicago Bears Hire Ben Johnson as Head Coach

The Chicago Bears have officially hired the former Lions Offensive Coordinator Ben Johnson.

In a statement shared by the team, Johnson expressed his excitement about taking on the new role, “The Chicago Bears are a world-class franchise with a phenomenal history and incredible fanbase. I am thankful to George, Kevin, Ryan, and the entire organization for presenting me and my family with this tremendous opportunity.”

Johnson was being eyed by several NFL teams, including the Las Vegas Raiders, but the Chicago Bears were faster. Just 48 hours after the Detroit Lions season ended, the Bears announced the hire of their new head coach.

Ben Johnson’s NFL career started when he became an assistant for the Miami Dolphins in 2012. In 2019, Johnson joined the Detroit Lions as an offensive quality control coordinator, and in 2022, he became their offensive coordinator. In 2024, Johnson had the #1 ranked offense, so it’s no wonder many teams had their eye out for him.

Over the last two seasons, Johnson’s offensive unit averaged the most points per game at 30.1 or net yards per game at 402.2.

Johnson never played for the NFL, but he was a walk-on quarterback at the University of North Carolina in the early 2000s. It seems as if his calling was truly coaching and guiding his teams to success.

Now, it’s Johnson’s time to make a bigger name for himself. At only 38 years old, Johnson has a lot of time to leave a legacy.
