In recent years, I have begun to see a trend in the online environment with classical type music. Beethoven, Debussy, Bach, and many others have had their works transcend time to the modern era, being played by young adults and even teenagers. It is a startling revelation that got my gear turning on why it’s happening.
By no means can its current popularity be compared to more mainstream genres like Pop, but a dedicated audience has begun to emerge from TikTok and other sites to rave about this long-lived genre. One such trait that classical music has that can’t be said for many is the timelessness of the genre. Even today, the works of people that were done centuries ago are still connected to the audience’s preferences. There is something about the orchestration of the instruments that gives off a grandiose feeling to the listener. Even when certain symphonies don’t implore vocals into the performance, the instrumental elements provide a cognition of emotions that practically dances in your head.
Another thing that classical music has going for it is that most of its famous works were done during the time of experimentation and discovery of what the genre can aspire to. John Cage was known for his testing of boundaries, like when he made a piece of pure silence that goes on for four minutes. Karlheinz Stockhausen introduced electronic instruments into his work. Many other artists used this genre as their playground, which inspired future genres to do the same and uncover new styles of their art. Classical music is considered classic for a reason, which is why it is worth checking out for yourself.
