Enough of the “clean girl” era, the basic tees, nude colors, and minimal makeup; I want maximalist fashion back! I want funky jewelry, patterned skirts, shiny makeup, and many colors, especially at festivals like Coachella.
Coachella has long been a place to dress up in your edgy and extravagant looks, so what happened? Even the Kardashians aren’t going all out this year when they used to be the pinnacle of fashion and beauty.
Don’t get me wrong, there were some good outfits so far, but they were mostly from performers. Tyla, Clairo, Amaarae, Jennie, Lady Gaga, Paris Hilton, and Xochitl Gomez were among the best dressed so far. But people like Kendall Jenner sporting a plain tank top and jeans? Or Hailey Bieber in a plain black dress? This isn’t festival fashion, it’s just a Tuesday in Erewhon or Nobu.
Coachella isn’t just about music; it’s the experience of dressing up, the spectacle, and the “vibe.” Now, it feels like everyone’s afraid to stand out, as if dressing down is the new trendsetting.
I miss the era when people wore iridescent bodysuits, cowboy boots with rhinestones, sunglasses the size of their faces, and kaleidoscope colors, where’s the fun? Where’s the pizzazz? I don’t want to feel like I’m going to my 9-5. I want to look like I’m wearing a crystal from head to toe and wandering in the forest like a fairy.
Minimalism has its place, but it’s not under the desert sun surrounded by amazing artists and art installations. Fashion should be as loud as the bass, bold as the stage lights, and unapologetic as the people dancing under them.
So, if you’re one of those people heading to weekend two, do us a favor and leave the beige at home. Bring out the feathers, sequins, neon, and drama!! Give us everything, leave nothing behind, and make Coachella exciting again!
