Fashion Designer of the Month for July 2022

Bio

Born in 1883, Coco Chanel rose to fame as a french designer and businesswoman. By 1993, Chanel was able to open her first boutique in Paris on 31 rue Cambon, the heart of the most fashionable area of Paris.

Chanel left a lasting mark, particularly in the 1920’s when it came to women’s fashion and design. Chanel helped women break out of the restrictive clothing worn during WWI, and helped create women’s clothing that was simple, and more practical. She also introduced trousers and suits for women, something that was never done before her. She is also known for her other classic innovations such as the quilted purse, the “little back dress,” costume jewelry, and her famous perfumes.

After her death in 1971, the name Coco Chanel still lives on as one of the most prestigious fashion brands in the world.
