As the seasons begin to change, and there seems to be light at the end of the tunnel, the crushing truth is getting harder and harder to avoid. Finals. Are. Approaching. Great.
As a college student, I get it. With the beauty outside and the warm air, the last thing one wants to do is sit down at a desk and stare down at a textbook to study a subject. I get it. But please do not fumble when you are so, so, so close to the finish line, people. As finals approach in my life, I would like to provide tips and tricks that help me in my college journey to aid in relieving your stress and anxiety.
The first tip I would say would be to make a plan. And it doesn’t need to be a big, detailed, or complicated list either. A simple and quick jotted list like ‘20 minutes of vocab’ can definitely help you stay on track with your studying and assignments as well. Having a list, this can help you know what you have already completed and keep track of what you still need to do. I find creating a plan before I study really aids in helping me keep track of my assignments and studying as well.
The second tip I would offer would be to do a little at a time. While I know it can be hard since finals season can sometimes feel like an endless wave, the best thing would be not to take on studying too much. Instead, I would advise that you study in chunks like 1 hour in the afternoon and 1 hour at night, for example. In keeping this habit, this can help build your long-term memory of the subject instead of forcing and cramming 10 hours of a subject.
The third and final tip I would offer would be to take small breaks during your study session. Allowing your mind a breather from your subject can help with your memory and allow you to refocus when you resume your study session. Taking a 15-minute walk, a quick nap, or even calling a family member can help not only with your mental health but also with your memory of the content you’re studying.
