Tomorrow, November 4th, is the election day for the mayoral race of New York City, one of the most important cities in the United States. Early votes have already come in, and the window to register to vote has passed. Tomorrow, the majority of the votes will be cast to determine who will become the next mayor of New York City.
Currently, there are three main candidates for the position: Democrat nominee Zohran Mamdani, former Governor Andrew Cuomo running as an independent democrat, and Republican nominee Curtis Sliwa. With the current polls, Mamdani is in the lead with Cuomo closing the gap. Sliwa is still in the race but has little chance of winning.
With how the election seems to be heading, one of the two democratic candidates is most likely to win the election. The competition between the two candidates is fierce, with both candidates doing their best to support their own position while throwing cracks into their opponents.
Andrew Cuomo has made his stance clear that Mamdani is too inexperienced to handle running one of the largest and most important cities in the United States, while he has proven his ability in the past to run the entire state. He also believes that Mamdani is a representative of a new kind of democrat that is inherently against current democrats in beliefs.
Cuomo gives his thoughts on Mamdani’s in a statement, “He is a socialist,” He continues, “Democrats don’t believe in socialism, they’re not anti-business, they’re not anti-wealth, they’re not anti-jobs. And they’re not anti-public safety and they’re not anti-NYPD. They want safe communities.”
Mamdani is a member of the Democratic Socialists of America and has framed himself as a new, progressive option for mayor. He is currently leading the polls and has captured the hearts of young Americans with his hopeful messaging.
Mamdani has said during a debate with Cuomo, “What I don’t have in experience, I make up for in integrity,”. He continues, “And what you don’t have in integrity, you could never make up for in experience.”
The election is set to finish soon, and we will see which kind of democrat will govern the Big Apple for years to come.
