Flashback Artist of the Month for March 2025
Cynthia is a Puerto Rican-American Dance-pop and freestyle artist. Born in New York City, Cynthia began her music career in 1987, with the help of fellow up and coming freestylist artist Safire, who set her up with multiple auditions with music producers. Cynthia’s big break came from an audition with the producer Mickey Garcia, who recommended Cynthia to his boss at MicMac Records, who eventually signed her on to a five year contract.
Cynthia released her self titled debut album in 1990 and Cynthia II the following year. Later in 1995, she released The Remixes, an collection of reworkings of her most popular tracks. Once her contract ran out, Cyntha went back to pursue a degree in nursing but eventually returned to music under the Tommy Boy label with producer duo Joey Gardner and Tony Moran.
There Cynthia released the singles How I Love Him and Like a Star, which featured remixes by Todd Terry.
