A potential injury from a Dallas Cowboys rookie stoked fears of a possible lengthy absence on the field from fans.
Cowboys offensive lineman Tyler Guyton walked off of practice early on Wednesday due to a potential injury. Guyton was a first-round draft pick for the Dallas Cowboys during the 2024 NFL Draft.
Before joining the Cowboys, Guyton played college football for the TCU Horned Frogs and the Oklahoma Sooners as a backup offensive lineman and H-back and the latter as a left tackle and right tackle. As he joined the Cowboys, many were excited to see how he would play on the field. Sports Illustrated’s Cory Kinnan even praised Guyton on pass protection.
”He has allowed just one pressure on 30 pass-blocking snaps this preseason, and he gets to learn from one of the best in practice as he lines up across from Micah Parsons every day,” said Kinnan. “Good thing too for Guyton as reigning NFL Defensive Player of the Year Myles Garrett is going to be the first NFL pass rusher he’ll go against in Week 1.”
Thankfully, a recent update announced that the injury was not as serious as many suspected.
According to journalist Patrick Walker, Guyton had walked off the field expressing knee soreness. Guyton was taken to the locker room to be evaluated and ended his practice as a precaution. Walker noted that the rookie was okay and that the injury was not a big concern.
With only a little over two weeks until the Cowboy’s first game, it seems that Guyton made the right call to pull out when he did. Walker noted that Guyton was not the only Cowboys player who had the same experience. A week prior, Brandin Cooks exited practice early due to knee soreness. Cooks would then miss the next two practices as a precaution.
A few other Cowboys players accompanied Guyton and Cooks on the injured list. Earl Bostick Jr., Shaka Toney, and Damone Clark are among the few still recovering from various injuries. While some are rather serious, Guyton and Cooks should be expected to spring back on the field in time for the upcoming season.
