After visiting with the Dallas Cowboys on Monday night, Dalvin Cook has agreed to sign with the Dallas Cowboys according to his agency Loyalty Above All. The four-time pro bowler is coming off of a season where he had just 214 on 67 carries and no touchdowns, a career low for a single season in all categories. Cook signed with the New York Jets in the preseason last year but was eventually cut. He then signed with the Baltimore Ravens for their postseason run and had 8 carries in their Wild Card matchup with the Texans.
The move to bring in Cook comes after Dallas lost their leading rusher, Tony Pollard. Pollard ran for 1,005 yards and 6 touchdowns in 2023 but signed with his hometown Tennessee Titans in free agency. The Cowboys also brought back former all-pro running back Ezekiel Elliott after his one-year stint with the New England Patriots.
With both RBs underperforming in 2023 and getting up there in age, Dallas will likely look to split carries between the two and “feed the hot hand”. Fourth-year running back Rico Dowdle also has a chance to be a viable option for Dallas. He averaged just over four yards per carry last season and ran for 361 yards as a backup.
