For the past few days, NYC has been plunged into cold weather, and it won’t stop yet. These dangerously cold temperatures won’t climb above freezing for a while.
These sub-zero temperatures and winds have prompted the National Weather Service to warn of extremely cold weather in coastal/interior New Jersey and the Catskills until 12 p.m. These chilly winds could reach down to -15 degrees.
Monticello and Sussex had it the worst as they were the chilliest parts of the city. Central Park saw -10 degrees for the first time since February 2023. Parts of Jersey and New York saw low temperatures they hadn’t seen in years.
Combining temperatures as low as what much of the tri-state area is facing and accounting for the chilly winds makes people at risk for frostbite or hypothermia.
Not only is this period cold, but it’s also dry. If your hands and lips feel rougher and dryer, it’s probably a good time to carry moisturizer and chapstick.
For people in these areas, bundle up when leaving the comforts of home. Add enough layers to your little ones to keep them safe and cozy.
These dangerously low temperatures shouldn’t last forever. Starting this weekend, temperatures will go up from the low 20s and 10s to the 30s and 40s. If you’re a lover of snow, enjoy it before it starts melting in the upcoming days.
