Daniel Jones starts a scuffle at the Giant’s joint practice

The New York Giants training camp will come to an end today with their second joint practice alongside the Detroit Lions. There was speculation that today’s practice would not include the Lions because of multiple fights breaking out yesterday morning.

The first fight was between the Giant’s defensive unit and the Lion’s offense. Detroit’s star receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown caught a pass with defense coming from Giant’s rookie Dru Phillips who held onto Brown a little bit too long after the play. Dane Belton of the Giants then batted the ball out of Brown’s hand after the whistle, to which Brown responded by shoving Belton in the helmet. This led to a full brawl between the teams.

The second time around more players got involved After a Lions defensive tackle brought new Giants offensive lineman Greg Van Roten to the ground, QB Daniel Jones pushed back. Some more pushing and shoving ensued but DJ was quickly taken out of the mix by one of the coaches.

Jones didn’t have much to say after practice when reporters asked about his decision to get into the scuffle even as a quarterback. “Situation happens like that you try to stand up for your guys…good intensity and competitive spirit today” he said.

The media has continued to have a field day with the viral clip for the past 24 hours. This morning on NFL Network’s “Good Morning Football” the hosts asked head coach Brian Daboll about the whole situation.

“[ I said to him] Make sure your ass don’t get hurt”. He then went on to say that getting involved helped DJ build locker-room rapport. “The guys have a lot of respect for him…it’s something cool for the lineman and for the defensive guys to see with their quarterback.” Going into a make-or-break season for Jones, it’s good to see he’s still got some fire in him.

The Lions will stay in town and take on the Giants in their pre-season opener this Thursday at 7 p.m.
