Daniel Jones throws 2 picks in preseason return from ACL injury

On Saturday, the New York Giants took on the Houston Texans in what would be Daniel Jones’ first NFL game since tearing his ACL against the Raiders on November 5th. Although it was a preseason matchup and stats don’t matter, Giants fans are a bit concerned about how rusty their QB looked.

Jones started the day with a quick throw to rookie receiver Malik Nabers, which was quickly read by the defender who nearly came away with the interception on the game’s first snap.

On the second drive of the game, things went from bad to worse. Jones dropped back into his own endzone and in an effort to escape the safety, he forced a throw to rookie tight end Theo Johnson. The pass was picked by Texan’s Jalen Pitre and returned for a touchdown.

After going down 7-0, the Giant’s offense led what seemed to be a solid drive down the field. Until on a first down play from the 33-yard line, Jones was looking to hit Jalin Hyatt on a go route and underthrew the speedster, allowing the DB to undercut the pass and intercept him for the second consecutive possession.

Jones played the rest of the first half and finished relatively strong considering such a poor start. He ended the game 11/18 passing with 138 yards.

When asked by Giants reporters post-game about the turnovers he said he has to, “Stay even-keeled, obviously understand what went wrong, and looking at the tablet talking to coaches, talking to your teammates, figuring that out and making sure you’re ready to go. You don’t have time to let that affect your confidence,” He continued saying, “Gotta settle in I mean can’t afford to make bad decisions like that…and then can’t make a throw like that…I think it’s things I can correct and I’m confident that I’ll be ready to go.”

DJ and company are now entering the final stretch before the season begins, but the Giants starters will likely get a break this Saturday when the Giants take on the Jets in their final preseason game.
