During an interview on SiriusXM’s “Trunk Nation with Eddie Trunk”, the leader of Megadeth, Dave Mustaine, revealed the reasoning behind why the band would be disbanding and why their upcoming tour, called “This Was Our Life”, would be their farewell tour.
While in the interview, when asked why their final album, which is called “Megadeth”, would be their final album, Mustaine gave the following statement: “It had been a long time coming — just physical stuff that was going on with my hands… My hands were letting me down. And there were other things that were difficult because of all the stuff going on in my neck and my trunk. All that area there has arthritis and it has discs that are bulging. I’ve got a broken lumbar bone. Of course, you know I have my back fused, up by my shoulders, by my neck. And just a lot of stuff.”
The American thrash metal band has had a long career, starting in 1983 and remaining active all the way to the present. Many bands dissolve much earlier than Megadeth, usually only lasting a decade or two. Megadeth has lasted for over four decades and plans to finish their run with a massive send-off tour.
The decision to make this upcoming tour their final one is in part due to the members wanting to quit their career on a high note. David Mustaine has said that he always wants to be able to give his best effort for his performances, and his list of injuries and conditions is slowly making him incapable of the same feats he could perform before. So, this tour will be the final time he and the band will play their songs to their best, and then they will leave the stage.
However, the farewell tour is planned to take place over the course of three to five years, meaning fans still have at most half a decade to go and see them perform live before they leave the stage forever.
