In 2006, the music industry welcomed a new artist, Taylor Swift. Little did that fifteen year old girl know that in less than two decades, she would completely change the music industry as a whole. She started off as a country music artist out of Pennsylvania, and soon became the household popstar we all know and love.
Despite multiple attempts by the media to shut her down, Taylor never gave up or changed the person she truly is. She kept making and releasing music, forever stealing her fan’s attention and the world as a whole. In 2023, the game was completely changed. She announced her ‘Era’s Tour’– an international tour where she would perform songs from each of her albums. Immediately, everyone’s attention shifted to her, and ticket sales were through the roof. Everyone was racing for a ticket to the most talked about tour at the time.
Even since the conclusion of the tour, Taylor Swift has remained at the top of the music industry. Her new album, The Life of a Showgirl, broke records almost immediately after its release. As of now, she is considered the most popular and successful singer in the world, and we have seen her highest rise to fame in recent years. However, has this made it all the more difficult for anyone to be able to compete at her level?
Although we all love her and her music, it seems as though there will not be any way an artist could surpass her levels of fame. For young and rising artists, it seems almost impossible to achieve the kind of goals Taylor has achieved. Though many see her as a role model, and she is, Taylor has set the bar for artists extremely high. To be able to steal the hearts of so many people is something so rare.
Instead of viewing Taylor Swift’s fame and achievements as a goal to reach, we can admire the power held in being a woman standing on the top of the music industry. An industry that has on occasion worked against her through scandals and rumors, she now holds in the palm of her hand. Though we may not see another individual like Taylor, it allows young artists to continue to work harder and be able to move through the path laid out by Taylor Swift. The bar may be set high, and at an impossible angle, but the beauty and power in Taylor’s career can be viewed as the ability to achieve the highest of goals in a world that works against us.
