Did The Natural Makeup Trend Predict The Rise Of K-Beauty In The West

Korean Beauty products have exploded in popularity within the United States in recent years. To many, this rise seemingly came out of nowhere, but those with keen eyes noticed that the seeds were already planted decades before.

A major lead-up to the rise in K-Beauty is the popularity of Korean entertainment, including music and TV dramas, in the early and late 2010s. However, in the beauty industry, the popularity of natural makeup set the set up to K-Beauty’s dominance in the Western market.

To put it simply, the Natural makeup trend shares many similarities with K-Beauty. Both trends center on a person’s skin looking clear and natural, to the point that people question whether makeup is ever used. Additionally, there is a major focus on skincare products and adopting healthy practices to improve the skin, rather than relying heavily on makeup.

These two practices often center on the use of foundations, eyeliners, and other similar beauty products to make the skin look flawlessly natural. Now that K-Beauty has become a dominant fixture in the Western beauty industry, natural beauty has not gone away. In fact, it is now more popular than ever before. Both of these trends have now found numerous benefits in being combined, with many natural beauty brands incorporating K-Beauty skincare treatments. Additionally, K-Beauty has pushed to diversify its content in Western markets, which has led it to be more endearing towards black and brown customers.

This relationship has done wonders, and it is only expected to grow more in the near future.
