Chris Hemsworth could potentially take up the leading role in an upcoming Prince Charming movie. According to Deadline, Hemsworth was recently in talks with Disney concerning the role.
While there have been many Prince Charmings in older Disney films including Snow White and The Seven Dwarves, it was the Prince Charming in the first Cinderella movie that officially took hold of the title.
Following the beginning of Marvel’s Phase Four, Hemsworth has branched out into radically different acting roles. Most notable was his villainous role as Dementus in Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga. Other recent roles of his include voicing Optimus Prime in the upcoming Transformers One movies and a starring role in the Amazon MGM Studios thriller Crime 101, alongside alleged fellow Avengers star Mark Ruffalo.
While Hemsworth might be an odd choice to play Prince Charming for some, the actor could potentially give the character a fresh start for the modern age. That isn’t to say that Prince Charming has no personality at all. Outside of the original Cinderella film, the direct-to-video sequels Cinderella II: Dreams Come True and Cinderella III: A Twist in Timegave the prince a more proactive role and many comedic moments to shine through.
The Prince Charming movie was officially announced last week. Deadline reported that Paul King would be directing, with Simon Farnaby and Jon Croker as co-writers.
Paul King is no stranger to directing whimsical movies. King is known for directing Paddington, Paddington 2, and the recent Wonka prequel film, which earned around $634 million globally. This is likely Disney’s continuation of revitalizing their old, animated classics with live-action adaptations. Despite being relatively controversial among fans, the Disney remakes have made well over $9 billion In ticket sales as of 2023.
While its plot is still unknown, it is alleged that the Prince Charming movie will not be linked with Cinderella. Disney has yet to comment on the news.
