“Dune: Prophecy”: The next expansion to the “Dune” universe

Warner Bros. Discovery and Legendary are bringing a new “Dune” television series to streaming platforms later this year called “Dune Prophecy.”

What is known about the new show is very little. The plot is being kept extremely secret, but we know some about the timeline for the series. The series takes place 10,000 years before Paul Atredies and his ascension to near godhood. The show follows the Harkonnen Sisters as they strive to protect the future of humanity and establish the Bene Gesserit, the infamous all-female cult that exists for millennia after.

The cast has also been released:

  • Emily Watson as Valya Harkonnen
  • Olivia Williams as Tula Harkonnen
  • Mark Strong as Emperor Javicco Corrino
  • Camilla Beeput as Reverend Mother Dorotea
  • Travis Fimmel as Desmond Hart
  • Sarah Lam as Hagal Truthsayer
  • Jodhi May as Natalya
  • Sarah-Sofie Boussnina as Princess Ynez
  • Josh Heuston as Constantine
  • Chloe Lea as Lila
  • Jade Anouka as Sister Theodosia
  • Faoileann Cunningham as Sister Jen
  • Aoife Hinds as Sister Emeline
  • Chris Mason as Keiran Atriedes
  • Shalom Brune-Franklin as Mikaela
  • Flora Montgomery as Truthsayer Vera
  • Tessa Bonham Jones as Lady SHannon
  • Laura Howard as Orla Richese

“Dune Prophecy” is hypothesized to be sticking closer to the newer “Dune” movies directed by Denis Villeneuve due to their recent success. However, the movie still takes place thousands of years before the main-line movies. This will give showrunner Alison Schapker and their writing team a lot of freedom when it comes to developing a unique style that works with the movies, but can still stand alone.

“Dune: Prophecy” will stream exclusively on Max when it debuts in late 2024.
