East Coast Prepares for Hurricane Erin

It appears that another hurricane is picking up momentum near the East Coast. Hurricane Erin is unfortunately beginning to become a massive scare for many coastal residents who are now preparing for life-threatening waves and currents to be unleashed.

As it stands right now, Hurricane Erin is expected to be a Category Four storm. One of the few silver linings is that the predicted path of the storm does not seem to make landfall anywhere, but it is still a cause for concern. The Bahamas will be the first target of the hurricane that will blow past them before making its way to the East Coast. Currently, the Bahamians and residents of other islands are being instructed about evacuation shelters and to always stay indoors.

North Carolina has begun preparing for the Outer Banks being hit and has enacted evacuation orders for visitors and residents. Flooding is another concern for the Coast, as it will likely make various roads and highways impassable for vehicles. It is too early yet to fully understand what effects New York will be facing with this hurricane, except that the rip currents will make the beaches too dangerous to swim in. It is expected that the beach crowds will weaken as the hurricane approaches the area. Even still, New York and New Jersey should be on alert for the storm.

As far as preparations go, the best thing anyone can do at this point is move away from any area that is in danger of the waves and find a secure area with pre-made food and water. Hopefully, the hurricane will pass by quickly, and the damage will not be as severe.
