Curtis Sliwa: Eddie Murphy returned to the Saturday Night Live stage after being away for 35 years. In one of his last appearances in 1984 he performed on the SNL stage as a NYC Guardian Angel. It was during the crime epidemic that was crippling the city.
His last show for SNL was on December 15, 1984. 8 days later, Bernard Goetz shot 4 teenagers who were trying to mug him on the subway.
The city was CRIME CENTRAL in 1984 and the Guardian Angels were the only ray of hope to show that New Yorker’s could fight back and that is what they eventually did to SAVE OUR CITY!
Now unfortunately we are beginning to slip back into the crime abyss.
