Athlete of the Month for April 2025

Bio

Edgar Berlanga Jr. is a Puerto Rican-American super middle-weight professional boxer. Born in Brooklyn, New York, Berlanga began boxing at the age of 7, eventually gathering an amateur boxing record of 162-17. His professional career began in 2016 when he scored his first knockout victory against Jorge Pedroza in Aguascalientes City, Mexico.

As the years progressed, Berlanga began to catch the attention of the media, thanks to his wins usually coming out of the first round. Additionally, his popularity skyrocketed by breaking the world record for consecutive 1st-round KOs in 2021. However, Berlanga’s career was not without controversy. An incident during a wining fight with Roamer Alexis Angulo, where Berlanga attempted to bite Angulo on the shoulder, resulted in a large amount of criticism launched at him.

Despite a six-month suspension, Berlanga came back swinging. By 2024, Berlanga had won 22 fights and suffered one loss, with 17 of those fights being won by knockout.
