To those in the absolute know, the FEMA Chief has been fired by President Trump. This happened in a fairly quick manner, so what was the reason behind all of this. Is the organization gearing up for a transition in this new age?
Cameron Hamilton, the acting administrator of FEMA, told lawmakers that he was not for dismantling the agency. This was in a testimony hosted in the House Appropriations Committee on Wednesday. His responses were a reaction to President Trump’s and the Department Of Homeland Security’s campaign to eliminate FEMA.
Why do they call for this stance? President Trump feels that FEMA has failed the American people countless times. All of it should be wiped from states to respond to disasters with federal government support.
Meanwhile, Hamilton disagrees with that notion – viewing the workforce as one of the greatest within the federal government. He wanted to refocus the agency and its budget toward delivering to the needs of survivors. Hamilton explained the imperfections of the American system but feels that FEMA is used as a financial backstop for local issues.
The Trump Administration disagrees and unfortunately, other officials as well. The group is considering raising the threshold to qualify for federal disaster assistance. It appears that the dismantlement could be rapid and radical – as judged by the President referring to FEMA as “woke” to appropriate funds.
Overall, Hamilton believes it should be executed carefully. As he feels states and locals should be monitored on building capacity. After his pleading, he was escorted out the building – basically ousted. So, whatever happens next should be held with a close eye for cause and effect.
