Five Nights at Freddy’s Sequel Will be For the Fans

Five Nights at Freddy’s has been a cornerstone of horror video games for years. Its subversion of the formula brought in many eyes and quickly lifted it to popularity, spawning many sequels, merchandise, fan games, and even its own movie. The movie rode on the anticipation of many fans back in 2023, with the buzz being like A Minecraft Movie. Now, with a sequel on its way sometime soon, it seems that this film is intended to be directed to the long-time fans of the franchise.

The first movie already had this audience in mind with the many references and callbacks to the video game. It wasn’t overly reliant on this kind of material, but it certainly went over the heads of anyone who wasn’t aware of the game’s lore. For casual viewers, the film was a mixed bag of good and bad things, with the online critic scores cementing this. Meanwhile, most positive reactions found online were from those who have played the games and were in the loop about the film’s world. Many fans are excited about what the sequel will bring.

Judging by the teaser for the sequel, it seems that Blumhouse Productions listened to their fans. Most of the animatronics are from the second game, which even less casual viewers will know about. This wouldn’t be the first time that a video game adaptation relies on its built-in fanbase to fill the theatres. With the surprising amount of money that they made from the first film, it’s clear that they know who to cater to. Even so, I think the sequel will still be a fun time for everyone.
