It is time for local New Yorkers to get their feet wet this week! According to CBS News, a parade of ships arrived at the New York Harbor this Wednesday to celebrate this year’s fleet week and provide all sorts of fun activities for the crowds to enjoy.
For those unaware, Fleet Week is a conglomeration of active-duty military ships that sail to major cities each year for a week-long celebration. This is an opportunity for the public to see these colossal works of engineering up close and meet the brave men and women who serve on them. The week is filled with all kinds of tours and demonstrations that give us a small window into the day-to-day operations of these ships.
With Memorial Day just around the corner, CBS reports that the theme of this week is a tribute to the 250 years of service that our seafaring protectors have given us. This week is the perfect way to celebrate their sacrifices for our freedoms and safety, as well as allow us to thank those currently serving personally.
Be sure to check out the Schedule for all the things happening this week! Starting today, the ships will be available for free tours of their interiors. If you find yourself in Times Square, be on the lookout for the free concerts that will pop up from Friday through Sunday. Also, be sure to check out the Intrepid Museum on Memorial Day for their annual ceremony. Let’s all have a great weekend with this traditional celebration!
