Harvey Taught Mike How to Be a Lawyer — But Mike Taught Harvey Why It Matters

If you have ever watched “Suits,” you know it’s more than just some show that has lawyers and a bunch of drama to keep us entertained. It’s a story about two very different men who change each other’s lives.

Harvey Specter is a top lawyer. He’s smooth with his words, confident and always, always focused on winning. He became a lawyer because he likes the power, success and challenges that come with it. He wants to be the best and he usually is (and knows it too).

Then comes Mike Ross. Mike doesn’t have a law degree (which is actually a massive deal), but he does have a photographic memory. He starts off wanting money and a way to use his talent (that sign-on bonus really grabbed his attention). Deep down, however, Mike also cares about helping people. He wants to do what is right rather than win a case just to win.

At first, Harvey teaches Mike how to survive in the world of law. He shows him how to stand up, think on his feet and win cases. Slowly, things begin to change, and Mike starts to unintentionally teach Harvey too. Mike’s way of seeing the law begins to rub off on Harvey.

Mike reminds Harvey that law is not just about winning. It’s about people and fairness. Over time, Harvey starts to care more about doing what’s right. He starts taking cases that matter even if they’re hard to win.

By the end of the show, Mike is no longer the kid with a fake degree. He’s a real lawyer who stands up for justice. And Harvey? Harvey is no longer the guy in the perfect suit with the witty comebacks. He’s someone who has finally learned that fighting with your heart matters too.

They learn from each other. Harvey helps Mike grow stronger and more confident. Mike helps Harvey find meaning in his work.

That is what makes “Suits” special. It is not just about talking intelligently and drama inside the courtroom. It’s about two people growing together and learning from each other.

In life, we often meet people who see the world differently. If we let them in, they can teach us something. Just like Harvey and Mike, we might end up becoming better versions of ourselves.
